Donnell Rawlings' first claim to fame was as the character "Ashy Larry" on The Chappelle Show, where he was a regular performer and writer.
Donnell started comedy in an unusual way. After returning home following service in the United States Air Force, he became a regular at a local comedy club and loved to heckle the comedians. A local stand-up challenged him to put himself on stage and Donnell obliged. It let him to a life in comedy and in six months was appearing on HBO's Def Comedy Jam.
Donnell made several TV appearances; seen regularly on Chelsea Lately, MTV’s new show Hatin and he even had a recurring character on the gritty crime drama, The Wire. Last year he recorded a one-hour stand-up comedy special, “Ashy to Classy,” for Comedy Central.
But he also has a history in radio, as a co-host duties for On Power 105’s morning show “Egypt and Ashy in the Morning” and the “The Big Tigger Morning Show” on WPGC in Washington DC.
